Balancing our lives with laughter, nature and rest

How much knowledge could you gain by simply walking outside daily and actually observing nature? If you allow all of your senses to take in every smell, sound, vision, and texture your appreciation for nature in the raw increases. Listen to the wind blow. Feel the grass on your bare feet. Can you smell rain in the air? Can you hear the water flowing through a nearby creek? Take a deep breath of fresh air embellished with the scents of the outdoors. The world outdoors has so many astounding attributes we often times take for granted. Sukha Yoga Therapy & Retreats encourages students to linger after sessions. All of my students are welcome to relax by the fire pit and listen to the crackling of wood.

Another major component to overall health is laughter. I encourage all of my yoga students to find humor in the everyday activities right in front of them. Laughter has been used for medicinal purposes dated back to the 13th century. It has been reported that laughter was used for purposes of distraction from illnesses. When was the last time you laughed? How much better did you feel after allowing yourself to laugh?

While you balance laughter and nature the last piece to life’s juggling act is the daily practice of rest. Take the interest in actually going to bed as a practice of nourishment. Turn off electronic stimulus by 9pm, being in bed by 10 pm and asleep soon after. Our body and mind need to relax so that we can completely refuel our body for the day ahead.

Yoga and Ayurveda Principles align themselves with natural rhythms found in nature. Yoga is about joy and happiness and finding every possible way to minimize stress and maximize love.
